Hypno · Fossil, what to know.
About the Hypno card
Hypno is card 23 of 62 in Fossil, released in October 1999, a Rare. It is a Stage 1 Psychic-type with 90 HP.
As a Stage 1, it evolves from Drowzee, which places Hypno deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.
Illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori is the lead character designer of Pokémon itself, so his card art carries the tight, on-model look that defined how the creatures appear in the games.
The Pokédex entry printed on Hypno reads: "When it locks eyes with an enemy, it will use a mix of psi moves such as Hypnosis and Confusion."
About Hypno in the Pokémon world
The fully evolved Drowzee. Holds a pendulum. Unsettling design. Fossil holo Hypno is a sleeper. Its art is one of the more striking in the set.
What is Hypno worth?
Based on recent eBay sales, raw copies trade from $5.92 to $14 depending on the print and a PSA 10 runs from $132 to $375. The 1st Edition print is the most valuable, with a PSA 10 near $375. The table on this page breaks the price down by print and grade, updated 2026-06-03.
Print variants and how to spot them
Fossil shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Hypno from the Unlimited copy.
Grading and condition
Hypno grades on centering and edges more than surface. The card was played and traded more freely than the holos, so a clean, well-centered Hypno is worth more than collectors assume.
If you are collecting Hypno
For Hypno, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Non-holo Rares from this era are cheap enough that a PSA 10 submission on a clean Hypno can make sense.
Three prints, three markets.
Edition 1 stamp under the artwork. Trades above Unlimited in matching grade.
No stamp. The standard, more affordable print.
