About this card

Magneton · Fossil, what to know.

About the Magneton card

Magneton is card 26 of 62 in Fossil, released in October 1999, a Rare. It is a Stage 1 Lightning-type with 80 HP.

As a Stage 1, it evolves from Magnemite, which places Magneton deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori is the lead character designer of Pokémon itself, so his card art carries the tight, on-model look that defined how the creatures appear in the games.

The Pokédex entry printed on Magneton reads: "Formed by several Magnemites linked together. They frequently appear when sunspots flare up."

About Magneton in the Pokémon world

Three Magnemites linked together. Base Set holo Magneton is one of the original 16 holos. Steady graded demand.

What is Magneton worth?

Magneton is a non-holo Rare. In Fossil, value concentrates in the holo rares, so a Magneton trades modestly, though a clean, well-centered 1st Edition copy in PSA 10 is scarcer than the print run suggests and carries a real premium. Check the live price above for the figure by grade.

Print variants and how to spot them

Fossil shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Magneton from the Unlimited copy.

Grading and condition

Non-holo Rares like Magneton are easier on surface but no kinder on centering. Wizards-era cards were less protected than the holos, so high-grade Magneton survivors can be scarcer than expected, with edge whitening the usual cap.

If you are collecting Magneton

For Magneton, check centering by eye, edge whitening on all four sides, and surface under angled light. Non-holo Rares from this era are cheap enough that a PSA 10 submission on a clean Magneton can make sense.

Variants to know
