Gengar

Gengar is card 5 of 62 in Fossil, released in October 1999, a Rare Holo. It is a Stage 2 Psychic-type with 80 HP.

As a Stage 2, it evolves from Haunter, which places Gengar deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi. Kinebuchi contributed a smaller body of Wizards-era cards but is responsible for several memorable holos, with a warm, heavily textured style.

The card's flavor text gives Gengar a line of lore: "Under a full moon, this Pokémon likes to mimic the shadows of people and laugh at their fright."

Fossil shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Gengar from the Unlimited copy.

Expect the holo window to set the grade on Gengar. Print misregistration and fine scratches in the psychic foil are the usual reasons a copy lands at a 9, and edge whitening against the frame is the next thing a grader notes.

Buying Gengar well means pricing the exact print and grade, not the card name. The 1st Edition Gengar trades above the Unlimited copy, so confirm the stamp before you agree a number. Always see the holo surface in good light first.
