Pidgeot

Pidgeot is card 8 of 64 in Jungle, released in June 1999, a Rare Holo. It is a Stage 2 Colorless-type with 80 HP.

As a Stage 2, it evolves from Pidgeotto, which places Pidgeot deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Kagemaru Himeno. Himeno is one of the most-recognized vintage illustrators, with a softer, more textured style that shows up across the Jungle and Neo runs.

The Pokédex entry printed on Pidgeot reads: "When hunting, it skims the surface of water at high speed to pick off unwary prey such as Magikarp."

Jungle shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Pidgeot from the Unlimited copy. The set also has the famous No Symbol error from its first print run, which adds a premium when the lower-right set symbol is missing.

Grading Pidgeot comes down to the holo surface and the borders. The era's foil scratches easily, so even a pack-fresh Pidgeot can drop from a 10 to a 9 on a single hairline. Inspect the window at an angle and the corners against the frame.

If you are buying Pidgeot, work in order: confirm the print variant first, then the grade, then price against recent sales for that exact variant and grade. For a raw Pidgeot above a few hundred dollars, insist on angled-light photos of the holo so you can spot hairlines.
