Mr. Mime

Mr. Mime is card 6 of 64 in Jungle, released in June 1999, a Rare Holo. It is a Basic Psychic-type with 40 HP.

As a Basic Pokémon, Mr. Mime needs no prior evolution to put into play, which made it a practical card in the era's decks.

Illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori is the lead character designer of Pokémon itself, so his card art carries the tight, on-model look that defined how the creatures appear in the games.

The card's flavor text gives Mr. Mime a line of lore: "If interrupted while miming, it will slap around the enemy with its broad hands."

Jungle shipped in 1st Edition and Unlimited, with no Shadowless print. The Edition 1 stamp under the artwork separates the scarcer 1st Edition Mr. Mime from the Unlimited copy. The set also has the famous No Symbol error from its first print run, which adds a premium when the lower-right set symbol is missing.

Grading Mr. Mime comes down to the holo surface and the borders. The era's foil scratches easily, so even a pack-fresh Mr. Mime can drop from a 10 to a 9 on a single hairline. Inspect the window at an angle and the corners against the frame.

Buying Mr. Mime well means pricing the exact print and grade, not the card name. The 1st Edition Mr. Mime trades above the Unlimited copy, so confirm the stamp before you agree a number. Always see the holo surface in good light first.
