Magneton · XY Evolutions, what to know.
About the Magneton card
Numbered 38 of 113 in XY Evolutions, released in November 2016, Magneton is a Rare Holo, a Stage 1 Lightning-type carrying 80 HP.
It evolves from Magnemite, so Magneton is a later-stage card that set-builders usually slot into a full evolution run rather than buy alone.
Illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi. Kinebuchi contributed a smaller body of Wizards-era cards but is responsible for several memorable holos, with a warm, heavily textured style.
Printed on the card, the Magneton Pokédex entry reads: "A linked cluster formed of several Magnemite. It discharges powerful magnetic waves at high voltage."
About Magneton in the Pokémon world
Three Magnemites linked together. Base Set holo Magneton is one of the original 16 holos. Steady graded demand.
What is Magneton worth?
Magneton is a holo rare, one of the cards that holds XY Evolutions's value. The rarity tier decides most of it, since the same card prints at several tiers with very different prices. In top-grade 1st Edition, XY Evolutions holos range from the mid hundreds for the lesser cards up to the set's marquee chase; raw and Unlimited copies trade for a fraction of that. The live market price above shows the current figure by grade.
Print variants and how to spot them
Confirm the print and finish on Magneton before pricing it, since variant and rarity set the market more than the card name alone.
Grading and condition
On a holo like Magneton, surface is the grade cap. The lightning foil shows hairlines under raking light, and the print reveals scratches that flat scans miss. Centering on the left and right borders is the second thing to check.
If you are collecting Magneton
For Magneton, variant comes before condition. Confirm the exact rarity tier on the Magneton, since the spread between tiers is wide. Demand a clear photo of the Magneton holo for any raw purchase.
