About this card

Blastoise · Celebrations Classic Collection, what to know.

About the Blastoise card

Blastoise is card 2 of 25 in Celebrations Classic Collection, released in October 2021, a Classic Collection. It is a Stage 2 Water-type with 100 HP.

As a Stage 2, it evolves from Wartortle, which places Blastoise deeper in its line and means most collectors hold it alongside the cards it evolves from.

Illustrated by Ken Sugimori. Sugimori is the lead character designer of Pokémon itself, so his card art carries the tight, on-model look that defined how the creatures appear in the games.

The Pokédex entry printed on Blastoise reads: "A brutal Pokémon with pressurized water jets on its shell. They are used for high-speed tackles."

About Blastoise in the Pokémon world

The fully evolved water starter. A heavy turtle with water cannons mounted on its shell. A defensive powerhouse in the games and a frequent tournament pick. The water Charizard equivalent. There is also a famous 1999 Galaxy Star Holo Blastoise presentation prototype which is a separate artifact from the standard print and trades for high six figures.

What is Blastoise worth?

Blastoise is a Common, so raw copies trade for very little and most of the print run survives. The only real value is in pristine, high-grade copies, where even a Common can reach low triple digits in 1st Edition PSA 10. See the live price above for the current figure by grade.

Print variants and how to spot them

Confirm the print and finish on Blastoise before pricing it, since variant and rarity set the market more than the card name alone.

Grading and condition

Blastoise is the most forgiving tier to grade in the set. Centering on the framed border is the usual cap, and the soft cardstock picks up edge whitening easily, but high print runs keep clean copies affordable.

If you are collecting Blastoise

Raw copies of Blastoise are inexpensive enough that grading rarely pays unless you have a clearly pack-fresh example. For set completion, a clean sleeved Blastoise is the practical move.
